Oh man, this fan-made MV is FANTASTIC. Done for Hannibal using the song Glitter & Gold.

I ended up being a few years late in joining the Hannibal fandom but I just finished the second watch through of the show before it leaves Netflix and my GOD this show has such amazing acting and is so visually pleasing, albeit a bit gory.

I'm not sure if I am going to continue the Album-A-Day series. It was enjoyable for a while but I started making too much of it I think. I am still keeping track when I do so we'll see. This week has been all about watching videos on YouTube about volcanology, Mt. St. Helens, Krakatoa, Icelandic volcanoes, the supervolcano in Yellowstone (it's a real thing yo). Anyways, we'll see how I feel about it in a week or so.

I think I burnt out on posting like I was. I think maybe I might do a summary post moving forward rather than an every day sort of thing. I'm just not used to posting like I used to do. So I'll try that moving forward.

Today's Album-A-Day pre-chosen music artists now includes Olivia, which I know I just posted about her inspi'Reira album last week but when the album came up on my shuffle, I completely forgot because I was too excited about listening to that album. So here, have another. Olivia Lufkin, aka OLIVIA, released Synchronicity in 2000. It's definitely a different flavor from her inspi'Reira sound, but it's still good to listen to. She is more experimental in some of the music she writes, as will be featured in some of her minialbums that we'll be listening to later on, but overall I enjoy her music and can say she is a favorite music artist of mine. Some of my favorites off this album are definitely the more mainstream songs, like Dekinai, Color of Your Spoon, Escape the Flames and the first press bonus track, Mint.

For Music Shuffle Nostalgia, I ended up pulling this gem of an album. It's a remix, I'm not sure if it's official or not, but it's organized by Yigytugd and called BoA Best of Angel, released 2009. It's a remix/mashup album of BoA's English release and various other songs. Like the first track is Did Ya Buddha's Delight, which mashes the song Buddha's Delight from the movie Music & Lyrics with Did Ya and it's probably my favorite alongside of the remix of Hypnotic Dancefloor (DJ Amaya vs. Groovebot's Club Remix). I definitely enjoyed listening to this album.

That's it for Thursday. Another shameless request for recommendations to journal communities who "talk" about general Jpop/rock, Cpop(rock?), and Kpop/rock. I think you can send a direct message to my inbox if commenting makes you uncomfortable.

Thank you for reading!

I admit I was a little trepidatious about listening to this album today because I had forgotten how much I liked it. Today's album is from Schwarz Stein, called New age children, released in 2003. I remember listening to the first song on this album and being like OH YEAH this is good. Kaya's voice combined with the digital rhythms is such a great mix. I very much enjoyed listening to it today and being inspired to find the albums I don't have saved and being sad that I don't know where to look to download anymore. I would buy but I found an album that was basically $99. I'm not paying that much. I'm not made of money lol.

And my Music Shuffle Nostalgia ended up being Madonna's album "Something to Remember" from 1995. I remember wanting this album because it featured the song that was on the soundtrack for the movie, A League of Their Own, which is such a good movie. I think that this album is probably one of my favorites of hers.

So if you have any suggestions for communities that share music from Japanese, Chinese and Korean artists, I would be grateful.

Thank you for your time!

Today's Album-A-Day brought around another Supercar album, B, from 1997. It was enjoyable, definitely easy to listen to but nothing really stuck out. It was enjoyable.

The Music Shuffle Nostalgia that came up was a Japanese artist who goes by Lia, with the Collection Album, Spectrum Rays. Her music can be called electronic, dance, trance, pop and I don't even remember how I came across her music. Anyhow, definitely at the edge of my dance/electronica enjoyment and while I liked a couple of songs it wasn't highly memorable.

Anyways, there are probably some people who love these albums and I'm glad for them, but today, they didn't strike well for me. Glad I listened to them though.

Hello! Hope your Monday was at least okay, if not good or great for that matter.

Today's Album-A-Day is Do As Infinity's first full album, Break of Dawn, from 2000. DAI has been one of those groups that I have known as long as I have been into anime. It helps that one of my favorite songs of theirs was one of the end themes of my first major anime fandom, Inuyasha. Some of the songs I saved from way back when before streaming music was a thing were such bad quality and obviously recorded off of radio or something as it was pretty terrible, but it thrilled me all the same because I was able to listen to music made by a Japanese band and it made me happy. This was before I even knew what Livejournal was. Before I even started reading fanfiction, though that soon followed as soon as I found a Yahoo group for Inuyasha. Yahoo Groups was my main interactions back then.

Anyhow, as a result, I have a huge soft spot for them and seeing all their discography on YouTube Music streaming is thrilling to me because of how difficult it was back in 2002-2003 to get anything from Japan, unless you knew fandom people who knew how and I didn't know people, so this is so awesome.

For today's Music Shuffle Nostalgia, f(x) came up with their album, Hot Summer from 2011! I don't even remember how I found them. They are a Korean girl group that was less pop sweetness and more dance and I loved their single "Hot Summer". It stuck in my head so I ended up finding their album on an LJ that was sharing downloads over Sendspace, or Yousendit, or Mediafire, or Megauploads back in the day and I was able to find most of what they had released up to that point. Anyways, they are a delight to listen to and I definitely recommend their first few EPs and Albums. I haven't listened to much of theirs recently, but eventually I plan to.

Thanks for reading my ramblings about the past and about the artists. Hope you have a good rest of the day!
josilverdragon: (Olivia a little pain)
Friday was not a good day and I almost wasn't sure I was going to finish the album but I did. However the second part of my post will lack an album as I didn't listen to one.

For Album-A-Day Friday, I listened to the Goo Goo Doll's self-titled debut from 1987. It's a solid release and while I vastly prefer their later releases, Dizzie Up the Girl and after, this wasn't a bad album, just not to my current tastes.

And no Music Shuffle Nostalgia this day. It was filled with trying to distract myself after 3.5 hours of sleep lol. Dang SIMS4. But also dang mood drops.

See you next week!

Alrighty, we're getting caught up. One day, I'll post these the day they happen. LOL, sure, Jo.

Thursday's Album-A-Day was Nirvana's Nevermind, released in 1991. I was too much into Celine Dion and sugar pop, radio r&b and such to really appreciate Nirvana while I was in my teens but coming back to listen to this album was definitely a good choice. My step-dad would gladly take the blame for my interest in more rock in my music listening proclivities. This album is as good as they say it is, and I am very glad I listened to it this day. Nirvana is on my list to listen to so expect them to come up again in a month or so.

The Music Shuffle Nostalgia for Thursday was Olivia Lufkin's album OLIVIA inspi' REIRA (TRAPNEST) from the soundtrack for the anime Nana, which, ironically, I watched only 20 or so episodes of before I was distracted by something else and thought I would go back to but never ended up going back to it LOL. Anyways, I LOVED Olivia as Reira's singing voice and all the music she did that was as a result of that. I love this album so much that I ended up listening to it TWICE because I couldn't help myself. Such a good album.

See you next post!
josilverdragon: (Kushiel Phedre)
Wednesday brought about Enigma, a group I just recently added to my list but one I have listened to before. The album this day was The Cross of Changes from 1994. I remember hearing "Return to Innocence" and immediately being enthralled. This was about the time I tried to get in to more supernatural type thinking (like reading about fairies and the occult) but kind of left that behind but Enigma remained. This album was the first I ever listened to and I loved it a lot, not just the music but also the message.

Wednesday I was not feeling the album that came up in my shuffle (The Red Violin OST for those curious) so I let the shuffle play a bit until alan came up, so I listened to their EP, Hitotsu (2008). She has such a unique voice and so I spent a little time that afternoon looking up her career after this point. I have a few other albums saved of hers, so I'll add them to the listen list.

See you next post!
josilverdragon: (IY Sesshoumaru)
Tuesday's Album-A-Day was Angela Aki's album from 2006, Home. I found Angela's music because a few friends liked Final Fantasy and "Kiss Me Goodbye" was a song for one of the versions of it and I downloaded it and ended up downloading everything I could get back then. She was another artist I lost track of after a while due to various reasons and it looks like she stopped producing after a few years, but Spotify has the rest of her discography, so she's on my list of predetermined album-a-days so you'll see more of her in the future.

Anyhow, I loved this album and nearly every song on it, especially "Your Love Song" as it really spoke to my heart. I forgot how much I loved her music and I am so excited to have her back in rotation!

The Music Shuffle Nostalgia today is a compilation of m-flo's Loves series called Loves Best from 2008 but it seems that it may be a fan compilation rather than an actual release by the group. I checked their website and www.discogs.com but there is nothing listed there, so I'm pretty sure it's fan made. It's a great mix so I will include it here.

I remember the first time I heard ASTROSEXY and it's such a good memory of myself and my friend Kikuko_Kamimura in my car, jamming out while we drove around Missoula.

An unwritten rule of this project of mine with no end date is that I will listen to released albums, or rather, official albums, EPs, etc., rather than fanmixes and such. So if a song comes up from a fanmix, I will listen to the album that song was officially released on. I may do a project solely for fanmixes but not at this time.

Sorry for the influx of posts today but I wasn't feeling motivated to make these posts the day they occurred so here we are with a rush before the end of the week. Which, I warn you now, could be a trend moving forward. For all I know, this is going into the void and no one cares and that's okay too. But just to warn you now lol.

Monday, April 26th, had Boyz II Men as the Album-A-Day. This album came out while I was in middle school and at that period of time I listened to the radio a lot (KUBE 93 FM lol - I still remember how they said this) and my copy of this was a cassette tape. Yes, I know I'm an older netizen. No, I don't care. Anyhow, this is Boyz II Men - II, from 1994. Listening to it was very much a trip back in time and I remembered a lot of the songs. I think I became interested in other groups or singers after this because I never owned another album by this group but they are on my pre-designated listen to list to explore the rest of their albums. Same thing with many of the forthcoming Album-A-Day posts. Usually I add them if I feel enough impetus to after having them come up during the nostalgia shuffle.

Speaking of Music Shuffle Nostalgia, Yiruma came up for Monday. Yiruma is a Korean pianist who, from what I remember, was pretty popular back in the 2000s and 2010s. At least from what I gathered, since I was able to download most of his work from someone who had all of this albums and shared them online. A lot of my saved music is from this timeframe because I didn't have a lot of money to spend $30 to $40 for one CD from overseas. I have no shame about it. Today, as self-penance perhaps, I pay for both YTMusic and for Spotify/Hulu so I hope that makes up for it. Anyways, this is Yiruma's 4th album, Poemusic, from 2005, and it's a lovely listen. I was more invested when I first saved it but it is still a good instrumental album.

The trip back in time Monday was fun and I enjoyed both albums.
josilverdragon: (Kazuyuki Matsumoto Tattooed Mind)
The Album-A-Day today is Lady Gaga's The Fame and my goodness it is such a fun album. I remember at the beginning that I wasn't a fan and I thought she was overrated but then Bad Romance was released as well as Dance in the Dark and I was all in then. I am totally chair dancing while listening to Poker Face. Anyhow, Lady Gaga is a very talented musical artist and despite how uncomfortable she made me with some of her early outrageous events, (i.e. the Paparazzi performance on MTV, the Meat Dress??) I like her a lot and appreciate how this was designed to make people uncomfortable.

For Music Shuffle Nostalgia, I had to go to the 3rd item on the shuffle playlist because the first one I had already listened to and the second one is coming up on my predetermined list above. But that is okay, because I am listening to the FLCL original soundtrack with The Pillows and SO MANY MEMORIES of Adult Swim and seeing FLCL for the first time.

Talk about a head-bopping morning listening to these two albums. Hopefully that means the rest of the day will be good and go by quickly.
josilverdragon: (Aaliyah sunglasses)
The artist to listen to today is Aaliyah, an artist that I remember the exact moment I learned she died. It made me really sad because she was sweet, she was lovely, and talented and I had such high hopes for her moving forward. It makes me wonder what she might have come up with as she got older and who she might have collaborated with.

The album I listened to today was her first full album released in 1994, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, which is the only album available on streaming anywhere along with about 4 or 5 singles. I think it's a crime that this is the case and I am sure her family (mainly her uncle, who was her manager) has their reasons. However I am glad I bought the albums I did at the time so I have what was released before her passing.

And for my Music Shuffle Nostalgia, Do As Infinity came up! Which makes me so happy. I first heard them when their song, Fukai Mori (深い森), was the end title for Inuyasha (and had glorious pictures of Sesshomaru, who, to this day, is still my favorite). I remember searching for their music among the early sharing sites way 19-20 years ago and downloading crappy quality files because I wanted to be able to add their songs to a mix CD and I didn't know how to buy their albums as well as didn't have to the money to back then.

Anyhow, today's album is Do The A-Side, which is a bunch of their hits and singles. I think I'm going to upgrade them to my artist list. (ETA: I just checked and guess what, they were already added LOL.)

I think one of my favorite things, 20 years later, is being able to locate all these Japanese pop and rock artists on a streaming service that I have easy access to. It was one of the things I lamented about back in the day as I couldn't spend the money I wanted to on buying albums from Japan as they ended up being $30 to $40 (which hasn't changed, try buying the Promare soundtrack *facepalm*). Streaming is something I think is a definite positive thing. I am sure that there is a lot of layers to having your music streamed and perhaps some negative aspects of it, but as a consumer, it is very convenient and I squee with glee whenever I find an artist I had saved music from (read: downloaded from someone sharing it back in LJ's hayday) has their discography online to listen to.

Well, that's it for today's post. I'll be back with more soon.
josilverdragon: (Deadpool)
Alrighty, caught up and ready to discuss today's pulls.

Next on my predetermined list of artists to listen to was Sara Bareilles. I first really started getting into her when she released her album, The Blessed Unrest, and while I haven't 100 percent been into what she created (The Waitress musical), I always appreciate her talent in storytelling and music.

This album is Careful Confessions, released in 2004 and was her debut album that was independently released. Some of the songs on this album are original versions of songs released on her major studio debut on the album Little Voice. All the studio album did was produce them and polish those songs, but it's wonderful to hear just how amazing she was as an independent artist. She has so much talent and had so much potential, which she absolutely lived up to with Little Voice and the succeeding albums she released. Phenomenal talent.

For today's Music Shuffle Nostalgia, the almighty shuffle on my hoarded music files brought up Supercar (スーパーカー), a group I found while trying to find a Japanese band to obsess over in the middle to late 2000s. They came up on a probably now defunct internet radio station on Live365.com (which still freaking EXISTS - the website, not the station) and I decided to find what I could to download as they are nice indie rock band, more contemporary than pure rock and I enjoyed listening to them today.

The album today was Highvision, released in 2002. The band is no longer active (sad) but at least I have them saved on my harddrive and available to stream on Spotify.
josilverdragon: (Avatar Jake Neytiri First Glance)
For Tuesday, the artist next on my list was BoA and her debut album, ID;Peace B from 2000. It seems so weird to me that this album is 20 years old. 21, actually. Being 41 and understanding how your parents felt whenever they make comments about how long ago things are but don't feel like they were that long ago is a new thing that I've really become aware of recently.

Listening to BoA's first album and the quality of her voice and the songs on this album made me wonder how the reception was when it was released. I'm sure there were many then who recognized the absolute powerhouse she would become, especially in the Korean music industry. I know she spread out to the Japanese charts but when she attempted to break in to the USA scene, it wasn't as successful as I hoped. C'est la vie. Not all of my favorites are able to be like BTS. I am not a fan, but they are one group that seems to have exploded worldwide.

Anyhow, I liked this album and enjoyed listening to it.

Next up on Tuesday's Music Shuffle Nostalgia, was a group called The Pretty Reckless and their self-titled EP from 2010. I am not sure how this ended up in my hoarded music library but my suspicion is from a fanmix somewhere. I was actually pretty happy with listening to this as I don't remember if I ever did before. Their sound is definitely along the lines of Paramore and Halestorm and by that virtue, something I would enjoy listening to again.
josilverdragon: (Last Unicorn Sparkle)
I have to play catch up as I've been slacking. They'll be all posted today but in separate posts so they are contained.

Anyhow, Bonnie Pink was the artist next on the list to listen to for Monday, with her debut album Blue Jam from 1995. I first heard her when I watched Rurouni Kenshin, as her song It's Gonna Rain was one of the Op/Ed songs. Going through her discography is great because she really is a talented singer and songwriter and at some point I may have listened to these albums or had them on a shuffle playlist and focusing on a encapsulated musical experience contained in a single album is so great.

For Music Shuffle Nostalgia on Monday, my shuffle today resulted in listening to J.S. Bach. It was an album I had saved called BACH - The Legendary Masters, which was a compilation of some of his works. I was unable to locate it online and all my CDs are in storage so I am unable to actually look at the album itself or take a picture, so here's a portrait I found and saved from online.

Listening to Bach reminded me that I went through a classical kick for a while, believing it would make me more cultured and appealing to someone like Benedict Cumberbatch or whatever. Now I am living more my true self and while I enjoy some classical, or musical instrumental pieces, it's not something I try and focus on or feel guilty because it's not a priority to know.

Also, I blame the anime Nodame Cantabile for introducing me to another composer, Rachmaninov, and by that virtue, chose to try and personally expand my classical library the little I did.
josilverdragon: (Iron Man Tony Stark Thumbs Up)
Good day to you, reader. Today's Album-A-Day was Janne da Arc's album, Gaia, released in 2002.

The thing I appreciate about this whole project of mine is that it gives me a chance to experience full albums of artists that I may have not spent a lot of time on based on how I came to acquire said music. Whether by fanmix, or someone offering a sample of the album, some of these I have never heard all the way through or only listened to maybe once or twice. That being said, when I had first been introduced to Janne da Arc, a lot of the reasons why I listened to some of the songs I did by them was due to my friend @kikuko_kamimura being a fan. Mind you, this is all the way back in 2004/2005 so it's been quite a long time and the band has since officially disbanded after being on hiatus for 10 years while the members worked on solo projects. My point in bringing the previous comment up is that I wasn't that fond of their music at the time. I was more in to Evanescence, Linkin Park, or even Gackt and Ayumi Hamasaki but it was nice to have a similar interest as Kiku, especially since she was one of my small group of friends. Not saying I didn't like their music, but it's that I liked their music less.

Fast forward to now, 16 or 17 years after the fact, re-listening to these albums means I get to enjoy them as the person I am now, and by golly gosh, I did enjoy this album. So many good songs and ones I remember adding to my playlist of liked songs at the time. Essentially, this whole thing is definitely a good decision.

Next up today for Music Shuffle Nostalgia, is Kirsty Hawkshaw's album, Meta Message (2005). At first I didn't recognise the album or the songs, but as I looked at the song listing and saw the name "Delerium", it clicked that I had bought (or downloaded? I can't remember LOL) this album because of a previous album by a group of people called Delerium. I liked their ethereal style, similar to Enigma's style and wanted to check out Kirsty because of how lovely her singing was/is. This is a good album, with a mix of great songs, collabs, and what have you. Definitely my style. I recommend it if you want to check it out.

That is it for my music listening today. Subscribe/follow whatever for more of this series and other random inconsequential tidbits of my life. Byeeee.

josilverdragon: (Gackt Eyes Closed)
Something I started doing back in February this year, was pick an album to listen to each day from a list of artists. Not every day, but frequently enough. So here I am still going in April and I added a second album that is random, pulled from a shuffle of my music library on my laptop. It basically gives me permission to contain my music listening to an album experience and gers me to listen to music nearly everyday, which had been lacking since there are so many podcasts to listen to.

Today's Album-A-Day was Gackt's album, Rebirth (2001) and so far in this project of mine, it's my favorite of his albums. Mainly because of Secret Garden and Seki-ray. I also mourn his voice, because this was peak Gackt and I think after the next album or so, the quality starts to get more nasal.

Next up is my Music Shuffle Nostalgia and that is Michelle Branch's The Spirit Room, also from 2001. I will always have a soft spot for this album as I was so idealistic and naive back then and this album was my exact preference for listening.
