TL;DR, I still have to listen to the rest of this Angela Aki album, “Home”, before I can enjoy the new Trigun Stampede soundtrack lol.

I made a rule last year sometime, that when I add music to my personal library on my computer, I must listen to it at least once. The reason behind this is I have been prone to just hear a song once, love it, and then add everything else that artist or band or whatever has done and I end up with music I don’t even know.

This is in line with my decision to buy more physical media, such as CDs or DVDs/BluRays, because if everything is on streaming and something happens where the company decides to remove it all and write it off as a loss (looking at the WB/discovery/HBO merger last year) and you cannot find it anywhere.

Well. Once again I have been driven to figure out where I want to make my internet base since Twitter is being run by a not-so-smart billionaire who is a bit crazy and it feels worse. Anyway, I'm going to attempt to cross-post more with this journal being my base of operations.

A couple of months ago I decided I wanted to start listening to my music and actually start adding physical copies to my collection again. This started as a result of seeing all the shows that were nuked and removed as a tax-writeoff for the discovery+/WB/HBO merger that occurred. Since everything moved to streaming, things that a person loves to watch, read, listen to, can be deleted, locked away and I feel like I need to make sure that I have physical copies of the things I love.

Ironically, this happened right before I became a Swiftie and I am slowly working on adding her albums to my collection, along with some books (like all the Danmei LOL) and movies, TV shows I want. That said, I've been going through my streaming library on YouTube Music and listening to albums in full and making note of the ones I love, while making note of the individual songs I like on full albums where I only like 2 to 3 of the songs and just buying the mp3 files to burn to disk.

So that gets us to today and I am listening to Hidden Citizens - Revivals EP and their thing is making "epic" versions of known songs and this one is pretty cool. I love epic soundtracks and have been known to collect a few (Interstellar, anyone? And Inception?!), so this treatment is always a delight. Check them out if you can. And if your flavor is epic songs lol.

I had a sudden desire to listen to one of my favorite Fall Out Boy albums, Save Rock and Roll, the other day and oh man, I still love that album. So I listened to it again today as well as their follow up, American Beauty/American Psycho and their 2018 one, Mania. Then I did a shuffle thing where I listened to the full album that the specific song that came up belonged to, and there were about 5 additional I ended up fully listening to today. It was nice. Sometimes I forget that.

Remember when we'd have to wait to get a full album when we had to go to the music store to purchase? Yeah, I do and in some ways, it was nice to solely focus on a single new album, rather than have, at a monthly cost, nearly everything at your fingertips.

If I really like things nowadays, I started buying the mp3 album and saving it to my computer. Mainly because I want to be able to say I own something again, even if it is digitally.

It's like buying ebooks these days. You can buy them, yes, often for the same as paperback cost, but they're never really yours. You can download it but ultimately it's encrypted and unless you have figured out a way to decrypt it and save it, the company who sold you the ebook can remove it from your library.

This especially has been made clear with what's happening with the discovery+ and Warner Bros merger and all the projects getting marked as a loss for tax purposes and thrown into a vault. It's such a shame.

But it was nice to listen to full albums today. I have a whole list of mp3 albums to buy (as I haven't bought a CD in years!) so it will be a while to catch up but I will do it.

Something I started doing back in February this year, was pick an album to listen to each day from a list of artists. Not every day, but frequently enough. So here I am still going in April and I added a second album that is random, pulled from a shuffle of my music library on my laptop. It basically gives me permission to contain my music listening to an album experience and gers me to listen to music nearly everyday, which had been lacking since there are so many podcasts to listen to.

Today's Album-A-Day was Gackt's album, Rebirth (2001) and so far in this project of mine, it's my favorite of his albums. Mainly because of Secret Garden and Seki-ray. I also mourn his voice, because this was peak Gackt and I think after the next album or so, the quality starts to get more nasal.

Next up is my Music Shuffle Nostalgia and that is Michelle Branch's The Spirit Room, also from 2001. I will always have a soft spot for this album as I was so idealistic and naive back then and this album was my exact preference for listening.
