Masterlist.

My Episode 1 post is pretty dry and full of details, because I mostly engaged with it as a murder mystery puzzle and world setup. Episode 2 has more about characters and feelings, and is where I got more attached to those aspects. It's also where things start to get Surprisingly Weird.

Halfway through writing this post I had an EPIPHANY and now have a THEORY. I have written it upo in my Theory Post, which will come after I have written up Episodes 1-5 since it draws on all of them.

I just finished Episode 5, and kind of want to finish writing everything up before Episode 6 throws all my ideas out the window, but also I want to see what happens next!!

Suzuharu Seno, a beta, serves Ryousuke Isezaki, an alpha and heir to a big family, as his personal butler. A free spirit, Ryousuke not only brings his omega flings home, but even makes passes at Suzuharu. Suzuharu knows that he's not serious, but his desire builds up anyway...

The long anticipated spin-off from the "Dirty Omegas Don't Fall in Love" series!! An omegaverse story portraying the distorted love of an alpha and beta's master-servant relationship.

My Rate: 7 (www.ebookrenta.com/renta/sc/frm/item/145208/)

This Poor Beta Doesn't Know About Love by Shima Yashiki is a BL manga that masterfully leans into the angst, power dynamics, and complex psychology of the Omegaverse. In a genre heavily dominated by Alpha/Omega fated mates, Shima Yashiki takes a refreshing—and highly dysfunctional—detour into the Alpha/Beta dynamic. The story follows Suzuharu Seno, a dedicated, stoic Beta serving as the personal butler to Ryousuke Isezaki, the wealthy, chaotic Alpha heir to a powerful family. Ryousuke is the epitome of a hedonistic Alpha: he brings home a revolving door of Omega flings and constantly pushes Suzuharu’s boundaries with casual, teasing advances. Suzuharu, trapped by his duties and his own biological status as a "neutral" Beta, convinces himself that Ryousuke is just playing games. But beneath Suzuharu’s calm exterior, a dangerous, unrequited desire is festering. This isn't a fluffy romance. The "distorted love" promised in the synopsis delivers in spades. The dynamic is a tense tug-of-war of control: Ryousuke uses his status and playful demeanor to mask a deeply possessive, borderline obsessive fix on his butler. Suzuharu uses his identity as a Beta as a shield, believing he is immune to Alpha pheromones, only to realize that psychological devotion can be just as intoxicating as biological wiring. As a spin-off of Dirty Omegas Don't Fall in Love (Yogoreta Omega wa Koi o Shiranai), fans of Yashiki’s universe will appreciate the expanded lore and the darker, more cynical tone. However, you do not need to have read the parent story to enjoy this. The focus on the Beta perspective gives it a distinct flavor that stands entirely on its own merits. Shima Yashiki’s art style perfectly complements the heavy atmosphere. The character designs are sharp and attractive, but it’s the facial expressions that steal the show. Yashiki excels at drawing the subtle shifts in Suzuharu’s composure as it cracks, and the intense, hungry gazes Ryousuke gives him when the "playboy" facade drops. This is a must-read for BL fans who love angsty master-servant dynamics, possessive leads, and psychological mind games. If you are looking for a sweet, healthy, vanilla romance, you might want to skip this one. But if you love watching a proud, stoic character slowly unravel under the gravity of an Alpha's obsession, you will absolutely devour this volume.

Nanao Sakushima is an omega who enrolls at a boarding school. To earn some money for buying medicine, he joins a circle that sells the members' bodies to elite alphas within the school. Soushi Ashiya , an alpha transfer student, bothers Nanao under pretense that he fell in love with him at first sight. Because Nanao thinks that alphas' goals are always sex in the end, he invites Soushi to do it once , but somehow he refuses instead. Isesaki, the circle's sponsor, witnesses that moment and punishes Nanao. Moreover, he even orders Nanao to invites Soushi using the mating period "heat"...! Soushi is agitated by the mating period succumbs to the lust... Even though he doesn't wish for it, his body can't stop yearning for that heat! "I thought I would never fall in love..." A love trap that tricks alpha-hater omega.

My Rate: 7

Midara na Ω wa Koi wo Shinai (The Lewd Omega Doesn’t Fall in Love) is a BL manga by Shima Yashiki. Nanao Sakushima is an Omega driven by survival. Enrolled at an elite boarding school, he resorts to joining a secret underground "circle" that sells Omega bodies to wealthy Alphas just to afford his necessary suppression medication. Bitter and cynical, Nanao believes all Alphas are just lust-driven predators. Enter Soushi Ashiya, a handsome Alpha transfer student who claims it was "love at first sight." Expecting the usual routine, Nanao bluntly offers his body to get it over with—only for Soushi to surprisingly refuse. This rejection sparks the fury of the circle's sadistic sponsor, Isesaki, who forces Nanao to use his impending heat to trap and ruin Soushi. What follows is a volatile clash between a desperate setup, forced biological urges, and genuine, unexpected emotional vulnerability. One of the highlights of this manga is Soushi Ashiya. In a genre often filled with overly aggressive or forceful Alphas, Soushi’s refusal to take advantage of Nanao—even when handed an open invitation—is incredibly refreshing. His struggle to maintain his principles when Nanao is later forced to trigger a heat adds genuine tension and angst to the story. Shima Yashiki doesn't shy away from the darker social dynamics of the Omegaverse. The underground ring exploiting Omegas for elite Alphas adds a layer of genuine danger and urgency. Nanao’s "alpha-hater" persona isn't just an edgy trait; it is a completely justified trauma response to his environment. Yashiki’s art style is beautifully detailed, capturing both the high-end, claustrophobic atmosphere of the boarding school and the intense, raw emotions of the characters. The intimate scenes are heavily charged with both heat and underlying emotional conflict, perfectly reflecting the "love trap" theme. Because Nanao is coerced by the circle's sponsor to seduce Soushi using his heat, the consent dynamics are incredibly murky. If you are sensitive to coercion, blackmail, and biologically forced lust (heat mechanics), this plotline features them heavily. The sponsor, Isesaki, acts as the primary catalyst for the drama. At times, his cruelty can feel a bit overly theatrical and mustache-twirling, serving purely to force the main couple into high-stress situations. Midara na Ω wa Koi wo Shinai is a gripping, high-angst Omegaverse romance that successfully balances dark, exploitative themes with a genuinely sweet, protective romance. While the plot relies on classic, dramatic tropes of the genre (like forced heats and blackmail), the compelling dynamic between a fiercely guarded Omega and an earnest Alpha keeps you turning the pages. Perfect for fans of intense, dramatic Omegaverse stories with a strong "us against the world" romantic payoff.

I finished my 2017 Reading List, and while it might seem like the path of wisdom to complete my 2018 and 2019 reading lists before I start another… Well, I like to have a lot of reading lists going at once.

So without further ado! The 2020 reading list!

Laura Amy Schlitz - The Winter of the Dollhouse (Schlitz’s newest book. Very excited about this one!)

Elizabeth Goudge - The Valley of Song (per [personal profile] sovay’s recommendation)

Vivien Alcock - not sure what to read next for Alcock. I’ve read everything from the local libraries, so whatever it is will come through ILL. Leaning toward The Sylvia Game just because I like the title.

William Dean Howells - An Imperative Duty

Roald Dahl - The Witches (I tried this book as a child and gave up because it was scary. Time to try again!)

Sveltana Alexievich - Zinky Boys: Soviet Voices from the Afghanistan War

Ruth Reichl - My Kitchen Year (I’m also tempted to try Reichl’s fiction. Has anyone read Delicious! or The Paris Novel?)

James Baldwin - The Evidence of Things Not Seen (pace [personal profile] troisoiseaux's rec)

Gerald Durrell

Llinos Cathryn Thomas - All Is Bright (this is an Advent calendar book so I will of course be saving it for December)

E. F. Benson - Miss Mapp

Nadezhda Mandelstam - Hope Against Hope (this poor book has languished on my ILL list since FOREVER.)

Mary Renault - The Praise Singer

Charles Dickens - haven’t decided which one yet. Should I take another crack at Bleak House? Attempt The Pickwick Papers? Make the acquaintance of Mr. Gradgrind in Hard Times?

Gene Stratton Porter - The Keeper of the Bees

More Goes Wrong Show questions from Tumblr! I'm always delighted to receive these.

Anonymous: How would the girls feel about playing boys?

Annie throws herself with enthusiasm into male roles and has a great time. Even in the Cornley Drama Festival, when she had control over the staging and casting, she actively chose to play a man in her farce; it’s definitely something she’s happy to do!

Vanessa is more or less neutral on playing male roles; a role is a role like any other. However, male roles do add an extra source of stress; she worries about whether she’s believably depicting a man, and she’ll panic if she messes up in some way, e.g. if her voice slips.

Sandra dislikes playing male roles. She’s here to be a sexy lady, and she feels that being cross-cast gets in the way of that. Which is a shame, because she looked great as a boy in 'The Most Lamentable...'!

Lucy is stressed out in any role, but she slightly prefers playing boys because it means she doesn’t have to hear Robert’s bizarre ideas about How to Be Feminine.

[tumblr.com profile] mosswall: What does the venn diagram look like between Robert Goes Wrong Show and Jeremy Clarkson?

Extremely heavy but not quite complete overlap!

- Robert only: fictional, obsessed with acting.
- Clarkson only: non-fictional, obsessed with cars.
- Both: large, loud, aggressive, ridiculous, attention-grabbing, destructive, distinctive style of speaking, oblivious to others, highly entertaining, cause a lot of problems, part of a close-knit but frequently antagonistic group of friends who manage to make everything into a disaster, outrageously fun to write, people give me weird looks when they learn that I think they’re hot.

Anonymous: I don’t know a lot about “the show that goes wrong” but do you think they would perform death note the musical and if they did perform death note the musical who would get which role.

I’m going to say that Max would play Ryuk - he’s got the grin for it - and Chris would give himself the role of Light. Annie would be fun as Misa! I can see Sandra as Rem.

Robert demands to be L. Chris refuses to cast him as L; he instead casts Robert as Light’s father and gives the role of L to Jonathan. Inevitably, though, Jonathan is unable to get onto the stage during the performance, and Robert gleefully steps in. Chris and Robert definitely capture the intense hostile homoeroticism of Light and L’s duets, although some parts of the audience are confused by L apparently being Light’s father.

Anonymous: I was going to ask "shag marry kill" for the Goes Wrong crew, but there are too many of them! How many of them are there, nine? Okay. Shag, marry, kill, roommate, stuck in elevator with, fake married to, coworker, owe £10000 to, unexpectedly related to. I think that's nine.

Shag: Robert. It's unlikely to be a good idea, but, look, if I've got to shag one of them, I'm going to shag the hottest man I've ever seen.

Marry: Vanessa. I don't want to be married to anyone, and I think Vanessa's likely to accept 'actually, this was a mistake, wasn't it? let's get divorced' without complaint. Even if we end up permanently married, Vanessa is one of the more liveable-with members of the society, despite being a little high-strung.

Kill: Jonathan. He won't be able to get through the pearly gates, and they'll have to send him back to Earth.

Roommate: Annie. She's very warm and friendly and enthusiastic; I think we'd get along!

Owe £10,000 to: Dennis. He will forget, meaning I can pay him back in small instalments over a long period without Dennis ever hounding me or getting upset; he will, in fact, be surprised and delighted every time I give him money.

Unexpectedly related to: Maybe Max? He seems to have a wealthy and supportive family, after all! Maybe they can help out with the £10,000 I owe to Dennis.

At this point I realise, to my mild horror, that I have to choose between Chris and Trevor for 'stuck in elevator with' and 'fake married to'.

Stuck in elevator with: Chris. He will be stressed out, but he is a better option than Trevor, who will attempt to force the lift's doors open, causing it to plummet to the bottom of the shaft and killing us both.

Therefore, by process of elimination, I will end up fake married to Trevor. I'm not sure my family will be thrilled by my apparent marriage to a man who lives in a layby in two thirds of a caravan, but it beats dying in a falling lift.

WAIT, HOLD ON, I FORGOT SANDRA AND COWORKER WERE OPTIONS

In that case, I'll get stuck in the lift with Sandra and have Chris as a coworker. Chris is testy and I'm sure we'll rub each other the wrong way sometimes, but I'm also sure he will get his work done and respond to emails. Sandra will complain loudly the whole time we're stuck in the lift, but I can handle that. Again, the crucial thing, for my own safety, is that I do not end up stuck in a lift with Trevor.

I was also asked for my five favourite costumes Robert wears in The Goes Wrong Show; I'm going to link to my response on my Goes Wrong website because it includes a handful of screenshots.

Yuzuriha has a feminine face that can beat most girls' and he is fed up with people who only care about the other person's looks. Sitting next to him in class is Tokiwa, the very personification of the type of person he hates. One night, Yuzuriha was about to enter a hotel with a man he had met on a dating app but unfortunately for him, he was seen by Tokiwa. To make things worse, Tokiwa thought that Yuzuriha is used to doing it with men so, he went crazy inside Yuzuriha when actually it was his first time!

My Rate: 7

If you are a fan of classic BL tropes wrapped in high-intensity drama and stunning artwork, An Momose’s I Want You to Love Me to the Inside delivers exactly what it promises. It is a turbulent, high-friction romance that dives headfirst into the complications of superficial judgements, misunderstandings, and intense physical chemistry. The story follows Yuzuriha, a boy cursed (in his eyes) with a stunningly feminine face. Fed up with shallow people who only value him for his appearance, he tries to take control of his love life via a dating app. Enter Tokiwa, his classmate and the absolute embodiment of the flashy, shallow guy Yuzuriha despises. When Tokiwa catches Yuzuriha outside a love hotel with a random man, a massive misunderstanding sparks. Assuming Yuzuriha is deeply experienced, Tokiwa takes over—leading to a chaotic, rough, and emotionally charged "first time" that Yuzuriha never anticipated. The core tension relies heavily on Yuzuriha’s deep-seated insecurity. He wants to be known "to the inside" (hence the title), but his defense mechanisms make him push people away. Watching him navigate his hatred for superficiality while being forced to confront Tokiwa's true nature forms the emotional backbone of the story. This isn't a slow-burn, gentle romance. It starts with a heavy miscommunication and a very intense, non-consensual-adjacent boundary crossing due to Tokiwa's assumptions. The manga handles the aftermath of this chaotic first encounter by forcing both characters to unpack their assumptions about each other. An Momose is renowned for incredibly beautiful, expressive art. The contrast between Yuzuriha’s delicate, pretty features and Tokiwa’s sharper, dominant presence is visually striking and elevates the emotional weight of their interactions. This manga leans heavily into mature, non-con/dub-con (dubious consent) territory at the beginning. Tokiwa’s assumption that Yuzuriha is "used to it" leads to a very rough first intimate scene. If you prefer BL with clear, enthusiastic consent from chapter one, this will be a tough sell. However, if you enjoy the "rough start to genuine devotion" pipeline, it fits the bill perfectly. I Want You to Love Me to the Inside is a fast-paced, visually breathtaking, and emotionally volatile ride. It utilizes a classic, slightly toxic BL misunderstanding to kickstart a deeper conversation about vulnerability and seeing past someone's mask. Come for the beautiful art, stay for the chaotic drama.

A young, arrogant rich guy meets a poor, average-Joe office worker in this cakeverse series!

In this world, there are people who are "cakes" and people who are "forks." Forks are usually blessed with beauty and talent, but lose their sense of taste at one point in their life. After that point, the only thing these forks can taste are the bodily fluids produced by cakes...
One day, Hiroto Ochi is invited to a networking party, where he hopes to rebuild his family business that's going under. There, he meets the standoffish but attractive wealthy young man, Izuru Taishaku. When Izuru accidentally takes a swig of Hiroto's wine, he suddenly starts making out with Hiroto.
As Izuru "devours" Hiroto, Hiroto can't help but notice how good it feels...!

My Rate: 7 (www.ebookrenta.com/renta/sc/frm/item/148126)

For those unfamiliar with the Cakeverse AU (Alternate Universe), it operates on a dark, instinctual hierarchy. Forks: Highly capable, usually attractive people who have lost their sense of taste. Cakes: Ordinary humans whose bodily fluids (tears, sweat, saliva) taste like exquisite desserts to Forks. Fumizuki uses this lore effectively to create immediate, high-octane tension. The contrast between Izuru Taishaku (the elite, beautiful, but taste-deprived Fork) and Hiroto Ochi (the struggling office worker trying to save his family business) sets up a classic dynamic of predator and prey—which quickly blurs into something much more mutual. The inciting incident—where Izuru accidentally drinks from Hiroto’s glass and immediately loses control—is a staple of the genre, but Fumizuki handles the aftermath well. While the initial "devouring" is driven by Izuru’s overwhelming, starved instincts, the story quickly shifts. Hiroto’s realization that Izuru's intense attention feels good introduces a compelling layer of psychological and physical submission that keeps the dynamic from feeling purely predatory. Kumi Fumizuki’s art is sleek, expressive, and perfectly suited for the intense emotional and physical beats of a Cakeverse story. The "Forks": Izuru is drawn with a sharp, cold elegance that melts into raw, feral desperation whenever he is near Hiroto. The "Cakes": Hiroto embodies the "average Joe" aesthetic but becomes incredibly expressive and flushed during the manga's high-heat moments. While the manga delivers heavily on the promise of its title (Lick Me, Bite Me, Kiss Me), it doesn't entirely abandon the plot. Hiroto’s desperation to fix his failing family business provides a grounded, real-world conflict that intersects nicely with Izuru’s immense wealth and influence. It creates a transactional foundation that gradually evolves into genuine emotional codependency. Lick Me, Bite Me, Kiss Me is a textbook execution of the Cakeverse trope. It doesn't shy away from the inherently dark, obsessive nature of the AU, but balances it with a satisfying "opposites attract" romance. If you enjoy high-spice BL with class disparity, intense physical dependency, and beautiful art, this is a must-read. Recommended for fans of Caste Heaven, Finder, and any dark contemporary BL where primal instincts override common sense.

Hello again! :3 Thanks for joining us! I hope you're ready to dive in and get started, because...

Today's theme is personal taste. Let's take a look into the likes and dislikes of our favorite (and least favorite?) characters. Doesn't matter if it's canon, fanon, a personal headcanon of yours, or a stray thought that hit you today. Regardless of their finances, what is a character's taste in books, music, movies, fashion, art, architecture, interior design, friends, lovers, deadly weapons... or literal taste in food? There's no need to pit anything against each other, like cats versus dogs. Also, little things are just as worth exploring as big things! Like someone's taste in pens or earrings or laundry detergent.

Feel free to add specifics to your prompts, like whether you'd prefer a gen fill over something shippy, or if you have a squick or trigger you hope to avoid. Original fiction, fanfiction, and fanfic crossovers are always welcome. ~_^

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and the fandom's full name
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here. Unfortunately, DW doesn’t have a cut tag, so use your best judgment when it comes to spoilers.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above-mentioned spoiler cut.

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Some examples to get things started...
+ Devil May Cry (main game 'verse), Dante (+ any), his taste in art/home décor is more refined than he usually lets on... because he's usually broke
+ The Batman (Reevesverse), Bruce Wayne (+ any), he doesn't really eat junk food but there's one candy/chocolate that Alfred always keeps in stock for him at home
+ author's choice, any (+/ any), sometimes they just need to munch on the ice from Sonic

We are on AO3! If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3, please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection. See further notes on this option here.

Not feeling any of today’s prompts? You can use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community. Fret not, DW members; we are working on a way to search through old entries for prompts for you! As of right now, the best way to search for a lonely prompt on DW is to search the community’s archive, which can be found [[HERE]].

While the use of LJ's advanced search and DW’s archive are options, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching in the future.

As a friendly reminder about our schedule, Lonely Prompts and sharing completed fills are encouraged on Sundays, while new themes and prompts are posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day. We'll share our posts on DW and LJ for everyone's convenience. Keep an eye out for notifications!

BBC Sherlock part 2

Alrighty, I finished season 2 of BBC's Sherlock and I'm still really enjoying it. I have some mixed feelings about the Irene Alder episode, I wasn't really a fan of the ending. I do love that she used Sherlock to get to Mycroft, but I didn't love the villain woman undid by love for a man thing. Also, her damsel-in-distress ending was disappointing, like no way, Irene is no one's damsel, Anyways, those issues aside, it was a fun ride.

The Hound episode was fun, it didn't go where I expected it, and it felt like a fun little interlude between the two juggernaut episodes.

Now, Reichenbach, the fans must have gone feral for this back in 2012. Moriarty was very good in this. I love his level of machinations.

Funny thing, if you haven't watched the Rathbone films you might not see it, but there were a couple of references to those films: Moriarty trying to steal the crown jewels, him going to Baker St and stepping on the squeaky stair as Sherlock plays the violin, they're definite nods, and I only got them because I watched the Rathbone films recently.

The conversation between Sherlock and John at the end, and the graveside visit, was heartbreaking, poor John. To know you're on the phone with someone and to think you're watching them take their own life, that would screw him up way more than he already was.

I really wish there had been a scene between Sherlock and Mycroft in this episode, I really do. It really felt like it was missing in this episode, and god, John never told Sherlock that Mycroft said he was sorry! Sad sigh.

Anyways, I think I'll take a bit of break before starting season 3, and yes I have been warned repeatedly that season 3 is not good and season 4 sucks, so I am prepared for that.

On the fandom side of things I've started reading fics, because of course I have, Don't worry I'm trying to read older stuff so I won't be too spoiled (but I've kind of been spoiled for a lot of things just by Holmes fandom osmosis anyways.) I ended up reading a Mystrade fic, and god dammit it, it sold me on the pair. I haven't really fallen for side pairing in while, but I knew it would happen again at some point. Don't get me wrong, I ship Sherlock/John, I ship pretty much every iteration of Holmes/Watson, but that is not where interest is really pointing at the moment. So if you have any good Mystrade recs, especially if they take place after Reichenbach, and deal with the fall out of all that, send them my way please.

I had a bad case of the don't wannas today, and I don't anticipate it getting better tomorrow or Friday, but we finally start summer Fridays this week and have a 3 day weekend, so hopefully that will help. I could barely stay awake until 5 pm, so after I logged off, I napped hard, and had one of those dreams where I think I've woken up, but no, I'm still asleep and then I think I've woken up from that, but no, I'm still asleep, over and over until I finally do actually wake up and am like, how did I think I was awake in those dreams, it was so clearly not reality? Anyway, it was in the middle of a big thunderstorm and there is nothing better than being cozy in bed during a thunderstorm, so that was all right.

I did want to talk about a couple of books I've read!

What I've just finished
I don't think I ever said anything after finishing The Last Contract of Isako, but I liked it. It's a noir detective story set in a far-future colony that has lost contact with Earth, and the titular Isako is a corporate samurai on her last contract. I really liked her - she was a 50yo woman in a profession best handled by younger people and she knew it. spoilers )

I'm seeing Baby Miss L this weekend, so I bought her some books and also read them:

- We Will Rock Our Classmates: A Penelope Rex Book by Ryan Higgins, which was ADORABLE. Baby Miss L liked the first Penelope Rex book, so I think she will like this one, in which Penelope signs up to play guitar in the class talent show, as well.

- Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein, which was super cute. It's bedtime and little red chicken wants a bedtime story but then she keeps interrupting when her papa tries to tell her one.

- The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt (Author) and Oliver Jeffers (Illustrator), which was cute but a little samey for me as an adult - I bet kids love it.

I also reread Parade of Horribles so I think I understand some of it much better but some of it is still a little ...opaque. I'm going do another reread with my notes document open so I can check off stuff that got answered (or not) and add all the new stuff that will now have to be resolved (or not). I will say that while there were some fantastic moments, it's not my favorite book - it's probably in the lower half of my personal rankings, tbh, because I feel like spoiler ) I'm also thinking about how supposedly Dinniman said that books 9 and 10 are really one book split into two? And I can think of several ways to manage that, so I'm very interested to see how he does it.
