Social Media Hiatus Day Three
Aug. 3rd, 2025 10:18 am10:18 (10:18 AM)
Mood: Good
Kind of funny how without the constant noise of the socials that I am taking a hiatus from, I have moved to doing more stuff back on Dreamwidth. Well, it's my longest surviving blog (LJ still up but I no longer use it) and I have always wanted to organize it more, i.e. tagging, directory, and so on. I just never had the time because of my archive (since 2024) and all the social media accounts I was trying to keep track of. I have always been an introvert and solitary-type person, so I do fine and have always done fine on my own. However, social media is the type of thing that encourages you to feel the fear of missing out (FOMO) and I have felt it strongly over the course of the years being on the socmed of this era. I have seen many people take full hiatus's from being online and I could never, tbh.
Anyway, new journal project involves moving all my posts from the various wordpress blogs I have accumulated and perhaps deleting those or abandoning them. I don't know yet. I mentioned this yesterday, but I have always wanted to pare down my presence but there's just so much. So much like my fanfiction archiving (a project where I just endlessly save fanfiction I think I might want to read), and the various other projects I have.
The other thing I like about this hiatus is that I sleep more soundly in the night lol. I didn't want to not have my phone on at night and the last two nights I have slept like the dead. One of my new goals I made last night was to not go to bed with my phone anymore. I used to lay down and scroll or endless flip socmed apps to see what was going on and I'd sleep with my phone under my pillow. My new goal by the end of this hiatus is to keep my phone on the side table. If I need it for some reason, it's still within reach, but it's not actually in the bed with me anymore.
There's just so many things that I have been constantly doing that I needed to break the habit and apparently August 2025 is when I decided to try and change some things. Mostly because two people I admire and am friends with are also on socmed hiatus so I felt comfortable with letting things slide. That and I figured out that Samsung Androids now have the ability to archive apps (most of them) and that keeps the data, log in, etc., but removes the app so it's easy to pull it back but having to wait for it to redownload and enable is like the perfect way to make me stop and go "Oh, right, hiatus". It's helped with my phone checking habits as well.
Well, I will leave this update as is and as I have been doing the two days prior, I'll update this post with additional thoughts as I feel like it. Ta!
